Articles created with lexiCan are saved as files in DOCX format. In order for them to be displayed in a browser using the +WEB web client, this data format must be converted into HTML. This conversion is subject to few and so far insurmountable restrictions, which can lead to losses in the formatting of article content. The following information is intended to clarify this and thus help to avoid additional workload.

Article view "Web Layout"

We recommend that you first create and edit articles in the "Web Layout" view.

Bullet outline

In order to make articles clear, content is often structured and provided with bullets.

In lexiCan, a variety of characters such as dots, stars, arrows, etc. are available for this purpose. The web client, however, can only map the dot and converts other characters if necessary.

Multi-level outline

You can also use the automatic numbering of paragraphs to structure article parts

Please not, that an outline over several levels cannot be transferred to the web client and therefore cannot be used

Pictures

Many articles contain images. These images are always provided with certain properties, which can be viewed and modified using the right mouse button

In order for images to be positioned in the right place on the Web browser, the "Wrapping style" of the image must be set to "In Line".

Image resolution

Many users underestimate the size of the images they insert into articles. However, this can be considerable. In the client software, loading times for large items are usually within acceptable limits. In the web client, however, these loading times can be significantly higher. Therefore, make sure that the resolution of the images inserted into articles is not too large. Here, several megabytes can quickly come together and significantly extend the loading time.

Full-text search

The search function of the client software offers some options and settings.

These are not available in the web client. For example, it is not possible to search for an exact string. You should be prepared for this and, for example, refrain from special characters in potential search terms or consider several different spellings. The search function in the web client is preset so that several search terms are connected via AND, i.e. only search results containing all search terms are determined. It is possible to change this setting. Please contact our support team.

Opening file attachments

lexiCan offers the possibility to attach files to articles. You can choose to paste the file as a copy or as a network link (file reference). However, the latter cannot be easily opened via the web client. If you have any need here, please contact our support team.

Headers and footers

You can add headers and footers to articles. Such headers and footers cannot be displayed in the web client. You may have to do without this design element and insert corresponding content as normal text in articles.

Columns

An article can be divided into columns.

Unfortunately, such a division cannot be transferred to the web client. Alternatively, you can use a table. Note, however, that tables with excess width are cut off at the right margin.

Text fields

Microsoft Word offers the option of inserting highly customizable text fields. These fields can be transferred to articles and can also be freely positioned in the client software. However, there is no guarantee that this positioning will be reproduced 1:1 in the web client. We recommend not using fields and only working with images/graphics.

Should you encounter any other problematic formatting in connection with the use of the web client in the course of your work, please let us know via info@lexican.de. We will endeavor to find solutions even in individual cases.
